How To Find Food That Is Safe In The Wilderness

May 15, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

People living in cities usually take the good things around them for granted and do not realize their worth unless they are lost in the wilderness where food is such an important factor. They may not even know the difference between poisonous berries and mistletoe. Once lost in the darkness of thick forests they lose all their power of reasoning and can become unnerved. The best thing to do in such a situation is to stay calm and find a way of survival by eating things that are safe and that will keep you alive.

It is very important to find a good source of clean drinking water before you find sources to satiate your hunger. One cannot survive too long without water when compared to surviving without food. Do not take any risks when it comes to your health and safety and don’t give way to wild imagination. You must be very reasonable and depend entirely on facts. Do not take any chances of eating any plants or fruits unless you are sure of what they are. Wild plants and fruits can be very poisonous so do not make any hasty assumptions.

For any layperson, it is very difficult to identify the plants and fruits that are safe for consumption as this requires prior knowledge and experience. You may avoid consumption of food that is potentially dangerous when you find that the taste is bitter, there is discoloration and decay, bad odor and the growth pattern is three-leaved. Plants with these characteristics are inedible.

The safest thing to eat when lost in wilderness is seaweed – they may be very slimy in their appearance but they are absolutely safe. It is best to eat seaweed that you personally weed out from the water and avoid those that you find on shore as they may not be very safe due to contamination.

You may be very hungry and eager to look for food around you. Fishing is one of the safest ways to satisfy your hunger. Make your own spear by using a sharp stick to spear the fish. Do not forget to clean the fish properly before cooking it.

Hunting requires a lot of prior experience and this is one reason why people who are lost in the wilderness should not depend on hunting for food. It just takes too much effort and time if you are not a pro at it. This may not sound too good, but bugs and insects are rich sources of fats and proteins so do not go by what they look like but view them as food.

Do not panic and lose your sense of reasoning as this may only lead to errors that may prove dangerous and fatal. Have a positive outlook and stay calm and this will lead you to the road of safety.

The Best Home Theater Systems

May 14, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Although attendance at movie theaters is ever increasing, people are turning more and more to the experience of renting DVDs and watching them at home. The difference between five years ago and now is that home theater systems are becoming more prevalent. The improvements in technology have given the home viewer an almost theater-like environment to watch videos. Screens have grown in size and clarity while sound reproduction has risen with the advent of surround affordable surround sound systems. It has become easier to set up a home theater system with the help of a specialist who will come right into your home and put together a custom system.

So the checklist of questions becomes important. There are really two major concerns to address:

1) What is your budget and what level of technology are you willing to pay for?

This is a trade off situation that must be considered before you ever start to purchase components. How avid is your movie watching? Do you like special effects movies or do you tend to watch movies that are dramatic and character driven? Are you a sports fan who needs clearly defined action on the screen? Answer these types of questions honestly and you can begin to determine how much you are willing to spend to achieve your specific goals.

2) How much versatility do you need?

The variety of media available is staggering. Audio and video options are multiple and various formats have to be considered to tailor your system to your specific requirements. Will Dolby technology or Digital Theater Systems be sufficient to satisfy you? They support different speaker configurations and surround sounds ratios. What exactly do you want? Sometimes it is necessary to visit a showroom to experience the system, as it will be presented in your home theater. The best home theater system will support the rainbow of media available such as DVD, DVD-R, CD, CD-RW, iPod, mp3, mp4, and so on. Radio options should include AM/FM as well as Sirius or XM radio for the best in home theaters.

Consulting a home theater professional (for they do exist) is the most efficient way to approach the compilation of the best home theater system. They will look at your space, assess your stated needs, and develop a set-up within your budget. You can experience videos, sports, and music with the best home theater system possible in your economic range. Run, don’t walk to the nearest electronic specialist. He will be more than happy to advise you on the best home theater system and then sell it to you.

What is Hoodia Gordonii?

May 14, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

You have heard of Hoodia but what exactly is it? More importantly, what does it have to do with weight loss? Read on to find out more.

Hoodia gordonii, better known as Hoodia, is a medicinal plant. It thrives in the deep deserts of South Africa where temperatures are high. It grows abundantly in the Kalahari Desert, although it can also be found in other African countries like Botswana, Namibia, and Angola. The San Bushmen, a group of indigenous people who live in and around the Kalahari Desert, have been eating it for years to keep hunger at bay during hunting excursions.

The appetite-suppressing powers of Hoodia prompted the researchers at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to study the plant. They conducted several experiments in hopes of isolating the unique ingredient in Hoodia that makes it an effective appetite-suppressant. Their efforts paid off and they named the ingredient P57, which is actually a molecule. CSIR patented P57 and sold its rights to Phytopharm, a bio-pharmaceutical company. Not long after that, Phytopharm teamed up with pharmaceutical titan, Pfizer. Together, the two companies sought to identify the active ingredients of Hoodia to produce an anti-obesity drug.

Phytopharm and Pfizer succeeded in isolating the active ingredients of Hoodia. However, they found out that synthesizing Hoodia for commercial use is difficult and expensive. For this reason, Pfizer returned the license to Phytopharm. The latter then collaborated with another pharmaceutical giant, Unilever, in hopes of continuing the studies on Hoodia. Both Unilever and Phytopharm hope to release the anti-obesity drug in the worldwide market sometime in 2008.

The science behind Hoodia’s appetite-curbing powers is actually quite simple. The P57 molecule in Hoodia was believed to be 10,000 times more active than glucose found in normal food. This molecule affects the hypothalamus, which is the part of the brain responsible for metabolic processes. When a person eats Hoodia, the hypothalamus senses the high level of glucose in the body. In turn, it sends signals to the nerve cells that the body already had its fill. Simply put, Hoodia kills your desire to eat.

Clinical studies revealed that those people who consumed Hoodia reduced their calorie intake by a significant amount. Since weight gain is associated with calorie intake, this only means that the fewer calories a person takes, the bigger his weight loss will be. Calories are present in almost all food we eat, and as such, they cannot be avoided. By suppressing your appetite, you lose your desire to eat, thus reducing the number of calories you add to your body.

One of the advantages of Hoodia over other natural appetite suppressants is that it has no side effects. Other natural weight-loss products can cause your heart to beat faster and your stomach to be upset. As of the present, scientists have found no short-term and long-term side effects associated with Hoodia. So if you are looking for a safe and effective way to shed those extra pounds the natural way, try Hoodia.

Important Considerations for Collectible Antiques

May 13, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Collectible antiques are not only fun to get but they are also fun to find. However, while some of these antiques may be great in value there are also cases where the investment value may not be as good as what one expects it to be. There are a few things that should be considered when looking for collectible antiques. There are various antique condition levels to consider. Also, there are all sorts of antique sources with different levels of credibility to consider.

The condition of the antique is one of the most important things that should be looked into. There are various different antique condition levels that antiques can be listed under. The condition of something will be based on different variables, whether it is jewelry or a trading card. Mint condition items are at the best level of quality. Meanwhile, poor condition items will be at the opposite end of the spectrum.

The antique condition levels will be based on the type of item that is being collected. Of course, even items that are not of the best condition will be worth a great amount of money. A poor condition Jackie Robinson baseball card from 1947 could be worth a great amount of money. However, it is best to have a good idea of how much something may be worth in a certain condition level so that it will be seen as to whether or not something is worth money and if its value is going to increase over time or not.

There are characteristics of other types of collectible antiques to follow too. Bronze jewelry clearly will not be worth as much as gold jewelry, for instance. However, the designs of the jewelry could make a significant difference. Items like amulets, rings and lockets can have their own unique designs that can result in a significant value for the collectible.

There are different antique sources to look for too. These antique sources can have different levels of credibility. There should be relevant documents relating to the items that are being collected so that it will be easy to see if the source that the item is from is legitimate or not. By verifying the source of the collectible it will be easier to make a good decision on whether or not a certain collectible should be bought.

These are all valuable things to consider for buying collectible antiques. The antique condition level and the source of the antique are both important considerations. Also, the characteristics of the individual items, including its design, can make a different. Be sure to use these guidelines when looking for an antique that will definitely be of value and of a great investment.

Bahamas Football

May 13, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Over the last few centuries the sport of football has greatly become popular. Groups like the Federation Internationale de Football Association, or FIFA, have helped to spread the popularity of the sport to many different countries. The Bahamas are among the places that have been influenced by the sport. However, Bahamas football is just something that has become popular in recent times.

Sports in the Bahamas as a whole was not that big until the early part of the twentieth century. During the 1920s and 1930s there were football clubs that began playing the game on the island of New Providence. There were all sorts of clubs, most notably Scouts, St. George and St. Michael, that began playing here. These clubs would also play games with groups from naval ships from other countries and other recreation ships that docked at Nassau. Most of the games here were played during the Eastern Parade.

In the 1940s football truly began to be popular. The Boxing Day Soccer Classic was formed for competition for all of the football clubs in the country. The Vikings and St. Georges were the most popular teams in the game at this time.

In 1954 sports in the Bahamas took a turn into more popularity as a league for football teams was formed. The Bahamas Football Amateur Association, which was formed by English businessman Brian Andrews, had several ten man teams that played matches on Sundays at the Park Clifford. The league would have some additional team as time went on.

The first major match that took place involves a team from the Bahamas came in 1957. A team of all-star players from the country played in a major trophy match against the Coral Gables Soccer Club.

With more international games involved the Bahamas Football Association was formed. This was for the intention of representing the country in international matches. The group would get its full affiliation with FIFA not long after that.

The BFA also joined the Confederation of North, Caribbean and Central America Association of Football. The group joined this league in 1981. This was used especially for representation in local matches.

Bahamas Football is another of the notable groups for the sport in the country. It works in the creation of leagues in numerous islands around the area. It also helps to educate people about the game, including information for not only players but also for coaches and officials.

Sports in the Bahamas have grown in popularity over the years, and Bahamas football is just one of the best examples. With all of the groups involved in the sport around the country it can be seen here that the sport is indeed popular and is continuing to grow in not only the Bahamas but also in other countries in the area.

Penny Stocks – The Price And Market Capitalization

May 12, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

When we are talking about the penny stocks we can describe them as stocks that have very low value, highly speculative stocks, unlisted on the stock exchange, and with small market capitalization. If a stock has any of these it can be called penny stock.

Penny stocks does have very low value. But, it is very difficult to say how low the value should be for some stock in order to be described as penny stock. There are a lot of opinions about the price of the stocks.

Penny Stocks Have Low Value

So, in general, if the price is really low then we are talking about penny stocks. Some says that the stocks with a price below $5 per stock are penny stocks. Other people are saying that all stocks with value below $3 are considered as penny stocks. And also there are some other people which claim that a stock is penny stock if its value is below $1.

Penny Stocks Are Not Listed On The Stock Exchanges

Penny stocks are also not listed on the stock exchanges. Because of this, penny stocks are highly speculative and they bring you higher risk when investing in them. The risk is higher because if a stock is listed then there are some regulations that the company must satisfy. And, the penny stocks which are not listed do not meet the regulation. They are simply sold outside the stock exchange and the investors can be very cautious about them.

Penny Stocks Have A Low Market Cap

Another consideration of penny stocks is its market capitalization. Market capitalization is market value of a single stock from a certain company multiplied with the number of all stocks issued by the same company and can be found on the market. For example, if some company has issued 10,000 stocks and market value of the stocks is $10 than we can calculate market capitalization of 100,000.

So if some stock has market capitalization below $300 million than it is considered as penny stock. And if market capitalization of some stocks is below $50 million they can be considered as nano-cap stocks.

Penny stocks Are Highly Speculative

In the previous example the stocks from the company can be considered as penny stocks because the market capitalization is below $300 million. They are also nano cap stocks although the price is not lower than $5. We should also state that there is high risk in investing in these stocks. They are not under regulatory control of stock exchanges, although the SEC does oversee their trading. These are highly speculative and this is why they are avoided by most conventional stock market investors.
